Susan Robinson-Cloete - Editor-in-Chief
Hi! I am majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Writing and Communications and an integrative concentration in Global Health. I began my journey with The Synapse as the art coordinator during my first year at Oberlin College before, most recently, becoming one of the Editors-in-Chief. In addition to The Synapse, I am passionate about reproductive justice and access to healthcare, and some of my hobbies include reading and hiking. At Oberlin, I play on the Varsity Field Hockey Team. I also spend much of my time researching neurotoxicology in Professor Gunnar Kwakye's lab on campus. After Oberlin, I plan to travel before getting my MPH and, eventually, my MD. I would ultimately like to specialize in neurology and stroke services and work to make healthcare services such as those more readily available.
Emma Rekate - Editor-in-Chief
Hello readers! I am one of the Editor in Chief of The Synapse Magazine and a fourth-year student majoring in Biology at Oberlin College. I am originally from New York City, but grew up overseas in Europe and Asia. I love biology and research, so being on The Synapse Board is a dream! Outside of school and The Synapse, I love to run, ski, play tennis, and travel around the world. In the future I hope to enter into a PhD program with a focus on molecular and cellular biology. I hope you enjoy reading all of the new issues of The Synapse each year and I am extremely grateful to all who put so much effort into this wonderful magazine!

I am a 4th-year double major in psychology and studio art and a dual sport athlete in lacrosse and field hockey. I intend to pursue a career in art therapy and get a Ph.D. after college. Besides classes, I do many things around campus for the photo lab, athletic department, research on cognitive psych, and trying my hardest to attend most events! I love staying busy and creating- those are my passions as a student at Oberlin!
Ella Erdahl - Intercollegiate Coordinator
Hi! I'm a third year student from the Twin Cities area in Minnesota. I'm a double majoring in Hispanic Studies and Creative Writing with a minor in Literary Translation. After college, I hope to go into publishing and/or academia. Apart from The Synapse, I spend my time on campus helping teach Spanish to elementary schoolers, tutoring, orienting new students to college life through the PAL program, and acting in the occasional play. I love spending time in nature and do that most frequently through roller skating or sitting under old trees with books and caffeinated beverages in hand. I've always loved the sciences and the arts and feel very honored to be part of something that brings them both together.
Mattie Rie - Art Coordinator
I'm a fourth year Psychology and Studio Art major. Outside of working for The Synapse, I am a captain of the Women's soccer team, and work at Slow Train/Local. I love to play soccer, run, draw, paint, explore abandoned places with friends, and go to live music events. In the future, I plan on getting either my MFA or PsyD and continuing my art practice.
Calvin McMurtrey - Community Liaison
I'm a junior studying biology with a chemistry minor on the premed track. I hope to study medicine after I graduate and do direct patient care. Before this, I plan on studying abroad in London. I help run the Oberlin Tennis Club on campus and work on the Synapse as the community liaison. When I have free time, I enjoy climbing, biking outdoors, and watching sports, especially soccer. I enjoy exploring Oberlin's campus, especially in the springtime.

Xin chào - Hello! I'm a third year international student from Vietnam and currently taking the Media Manager role at The Synapse Magazine. As a Biology and Biochemistry double major, I spend a lot of time interacting with other students by being a QUAIL and a lab TA (and I plan on doing these until I graduate). I am also working in the Moore Lab and teaching an ExCo on Chinese Calligraphy. Outside academia, my hobbies are baking, painting, gardening, playing guitar, and going on long walks or hikes. I'm definitely a busy person, but will always make time for a Vietnamese meal or a coffee tour. After Oberlin, I plan on completing a PhD program and continuing my research in plant biology. I am excited to continue working with so many amazing people in The Synapse Magazine!
